White Herman Miller Original Vintage Eames Black RAR Rocking Arm Chair

This original, vintage, Herman Miller Eames black arm shell chair is finished in gorgeous white Girard vinyl sat on a used, newer, walnut RAR rocking base. The finish of this design icon is very nice for a vintage shell and coupled with its dark wood RAR base this is a fantastic chair to own!

The arm shell was the first version of the fiberglass shells to be introduced to the world and the RAR base was one of the first offered along with it. Though only available until 1968, the popularity of the RAR base has ensured it has become quite possibly the most sought-after version of this chair.

Individual Characteristics

The chair has survived very well, the vinyl is in a gently aged condition with some light scratches in the seat surface; though they have not gone through the vinyl, and it could do with a good clean and the fiberglass does not display any chips or cracks in it.

The double triangle logo on the underside of the shell indicates this is a GATC shell which was an early factory Herman Miller used before moving to Summit Plastics and Cincinnati Milicron.

Investment Value

The Eames fiberglass shell series have always captured the public’s interest and this has always helped to see them be great collector’s pieces. As functional, stylish pieces, they can be used and enjoyed whilst retaining their value rather well. This is a great example of an original vintage shell on a very nice newer, used, base it should be a good investment piece
