Black on Black Vitra Plastic Vitra Original Eames Dining Arm Chair
This is a used, newer version of the original Vitra Eames upholstered DAR armchair. The chair is made of Polypropylene plastic, a more environmentally friendly plastic, completed with upholstered fabric in black. This armchair wouldn't be completed without the Eiffel base, a base that is so widely recognisable, that it was re-issued again in 2001.
Vitra achieved the rights to sell Eames products within Europe and, with Herman Miller’s initial assistance, produced their products within Europe to sell as such. They now produce the products by themselves, still distributing within Europe and also Asia.
The plastic version of the shell was introduced in the 1990s, when plastic was becoming more widely used. Plastic meant the tops were still as sturdy, and importantly, as easy to mould as the original fiberglass versions.
This Black upholstered DAR is a rather newer version, therefore it is in a very good condition. The fabric may require a little maintenance, in which further images are available upon request. Overall, this chair is price worthy.
The embossed logo on the underside of the shell indicates it is a Vitra produced the shell.
The investment value of the shell chair series depends upon many factors such as the age of the shell, the age of the base, the rarity of the shell colour, the factory of origin and, of course, the condition. As a newer variant of the iconic shell produced in plastic, its investment value is not rated highly, but it will prove to be a very sturdy and reliable chair. The price for this chair is spectacular, if you consider that the Eiffel base is newer.
