Product Description

A Herman Miller vintage, original, Eames blue vinyl upholstered white arm shell chair on its new RAR base is a great addition to any home, office or collection. With its fibrous white shell and blue vinyl, this chair is perfect for any space, truly envisaging the Eames’ desire to produce a chair for everyone.

The arm shell was the first of the molded fiberglass chairs Charles and Ray perfected and, with the help of Herman Miller, it saw amazing commercial success. The shells were produced with a wide variety of bases, ensuring the versatility of the chair was achievable. The head of Herman Miller’s design department, Alexander Girard, was approached to design upholstered finishes for both the side and arm shells; he produced a vast range of choices with different colours and fabric/vinyl finishes to choose from.

Individual Characteristics

The blue upholstery is original and in good vintage condition with no lifts or tears; some aged signs of use may be present but this should be removable with a small clean. The edging is coming away ever-so-slightly on the top corner of the backrest, but it has not come away completely. The price reflects this and there are further pictures available on request. The white shell is in good condition too with no dents or scratches.

Varies slightly from the picture, the RAR base is a new, used example with the rocking base of walnut wood, making this chair more sturdy and of higher quality.

The ‘S’ within the circle indicates this shell originates from Herman Miller’s Summit Plastics factory.

Investment Details

Eames shell chairs widely range in respects of being investment prospects. The age of the shell coupled with its condition greatly affects this alongside the colour, the factory of origin and whether or not it comes with its original base. Being an excellent example of an original upholstered chair, this should be a reasonable investment piece.
