Cobalt Blue Pair (2) Herman Miller Vintage Eames DSW Side Shell Chair
Cobalt blue vintage authentic Eames fiberglass side shell chairs for Herman Miller on replacement Herman Miller maple DSW bases looks phenomenal. The cobalt blue is a rare colour with fantastic clearly seen fibres. This chair will fill any space it is placed into and will prove to be an easy conversation starter.
The Eames shells were produced in the 1950s, with early prototypes of the armchairs beginning in the late 1940s and have continued to be a highly popular piece of art and furniture. The earlier versions of the arm and side shells are defined by their highly fibrous finish whilst later versions displayed a bolder colour. This particular chair displays a network of fibres, crisscrossing all over the shell which helps define it as an earlier version of the side shell.
This pair of chairs were produced over half a century ago and with a cobalt blue finish, which has become increasingly rare. As shown in the pictures, the chairs have been well used and have aged well with just a few scuff marks on the edges which is expected with ageing.
The newer, replacement Herman Miller maple DSW bases are in good used condition.
The ‘S’ stamp signifies the shell originates from Herman Miller’s Summit Plastics factory.
The Eames shell chair collection is a much-coveted piece of their work. As with most vintage pieces, their investment value is determined by age, condition and rarity; in this case colour. With Eames chairs this is also boosted by their originality. This chair is in good condition for its age. This should prove to be a very reasonable investment piece.
