Greige Herman Miller Vintage Original Eames RAR Rocking Arm Shell Chair
This is an example of a second-generation Zenith Greige, fibreglass Herman Miller Eames RAR rocking chair, on a newer, used, walnut rocking base. The shell has gorgeous fibrous details, and has retained most of its colour despite being a vintage shell.
Zenith Plastics were the first company to produce the Eames shell chairs. Beginning with just the arm it is easy to understand how they gained steady fame. Their near indestructibility and, though limited, range of colours meant they were extremely modern for their time and this prompted the inclusion of the side shells too.
Being one of the first original colours, somewhat understandably, this Greige shell is a great example of the first versions of this famous design. They are much sought-after and are highly revered pieces making them excellent investment pieces.
This used, original greige arm shell is in very good condition for its vintage age, with no major scratches or marks on the shell. The newer used walnut RAR base is very sturdy and stable and will support your weight when rocking. Further images are available upon request.
The later Cincinnati Milacron "C" stamp suggests that it is manufactured between 1965-1978.
The Eames’s work is highly coveted. From their artwork to their furniture, their work attracts interest from everywhere. The shells are a great investment piece, especially vintage ones. Like many things, their age, factory of origin and even colour can affect the shells’ value. This second-generation zenith shell is a very valuable investment considering its age and condition.
