Navy Herman Miller Original Vintage Eames RAR Rocking Arm Shell Chair
This is a vintage, original, Navy-blue Herman Miller Eames fiberglass arm shell chair with grey painted back and a newer used walnut rocking RAR base, perfect. The deep navy blue is of newer edition colours, but with the grey back harks back to an older style and coupled with the RAR base, it makes an amazing art piece!
The Eames shell series chairs really do not need any introduction. With early prototypes beginning in the late 1940s, production began on the Eames' dream of 'chairs for the masses' in 1950 with the arm and then the sides later in 1952/53. The original and vintage fiberglass chairs were so versatile and so modern that they only increase in popularity as the years go by.
Whilst the newer tops were somewhat bolder in colour, Herman Miller endeavoured to retain the ‘Fibrous’ look of the shell which can still be seen on this great example.
This Original navy blue fiberglass arm shell is in good condition, with its colour still very much vibrant and the grey painted back is still in good condition to with only minimal signs of age to it. The newer, used RAR walnut base is in top condition and is fully stable with no visible marks or cracks.
Images display the chair as non-painted, please refer to the included image in the listing to understand the backside of the shell.
Eames Shells are always a coveted piece, but their investment value is determined by many disciplines. The older the shell, for example, will add to its investment value along with the rarity of the colour, the age of the base and the origin of production. This particular colour is vibrant and modern and the great condition of the chair is reflected by the price.
