Ochre Pair (2) Herman Miller Vintage Eames DSW Side Shell Chairs
A pair of used, original, vintage warm ochre Herman Miller Eames side shells, with complimentary new, used walnut dowel bases make the perfect dining chairs. Ochre has always been a very popular choice of colour, and it's not hard to see why it is a very good decorative piece to a modern interior.
The Eames shell series chairs really do not need any introduction. With early prototypes beginning in the late 1940's, production began on the Eames' dream of 'chairs for the masses' in 1950 with the arm and then the sides later in 1952/53. The original and vintage fiberglass chairs were so versatile and so modern that they only increase in popularity as the years go by.
Fiberglass originals always have a base colour and gorgeous 'visible' fibers in the shell itself. The upholstered version was introduced by Herman Miller a little later on using fabrics and textiles designed by the esteemed designer Alexander Girard.
As vintage chairs, these DSWs do display minor marks due to their age. However, the colour still maintains its vibrancy. These chairs, as a whole, are in a fantastic condition still, especially if you consider the stability of the brand new bases which, in contrast to the images, have black feet and not white ones.
The circled S logo denotes its origin as the Summit Plastics factory and was made around 1959-1989.
Eames Shell Chairs vary from 1 to 5 stars for investment. The reasons depend on so many factors but mainly the condition, the rarity of the colour, the originality of the base, the age and of course the maker are those that determine. Nice Ochre shells are very desirable and therefore you can expect their value to always grow. Not to mention the chair comes at a discounted price when you buy more than one!
