Olive Green Herman Miller Original Vintage Eames RAR Rocking Arm Chair
An original, Herman Miller Olive Green Eames arm shell chair on a newer, used RAR rocking base with wonderful spider-web like fibers makes for a very nice piece. The deep olive green colour has not been marred by time and the beautiful dark wood of the used RAR base really helps accentuate the colour of the shell.
The history of these chairs has been well versed, along with their versatility, and they are very popular today due to this. This particular example lives up to the original ambition of Charles and Ray since it is one of the earlier, original production style and are still as strong as the day it was made. Older versions of the tops are denoted by their highly textured fibrous finish in the tops.
The arm top is in a good vintage condition though this does not mean to say it is perfect. There is some slight ‘shock mount’ bleeding on the shell, though it is very faint and some minor marks but otherwise this is a very unique example of a very difficult colour to find.
The double triangle indicates this is a shell from the GATC factory Herman Miller used briefly before moving production to the main factories, Summit Plastics and Cincinnati Prime.
The investment value of the Eames’s beautiful chairs depends on many factors: the age and condition of the shell, the rarity of its colour, the age of the base and where the shell was produced. Whilst all of the shell chairs are viable investments, this particular piece is a great example in that the top is in a rather rare colour which looks amazing.
