Orange and Blue Pair (2) Herman Miller Original Vintage Eames DSW Side Shell Chairs
A gorgeous combination, these lavishly upholstered orange and blue checker original Eames and Herman Miller white side shell chairs finished in an updated Alexander Girard designed fabric work effortlessly with the fibrous finish of the side shells themselves and combined with the used, newer, light oak DSW dowel bases.
The upholstered versions of the Eames shells were designed with the help of the Eames’s great personal friend Alexander Girard, who became the head of textiles at Herman Miller and introduced the Eames’s to Herman Miller. Girard was meticulous when it came to his work, producing many various textile designs which were also used as wallpaper.
Herman Miller faithfully reintroduced the fiberglass shell and with it maintained the upholstered options for them. The options available are still numerous, available in various fabrics in various colours.
These are some great examples of a classic piece. These particular shells are in a great re-conditioned finish with no cuts, tears, cracks or dents.
The ‘S’ inside the circle indicates these shells originate from Herman Miller’s Summit Plastic’s factory.
An Eames shells is a coveted piece. A simultaneous artistic piece whilst being an ergonomic design has helped maintain their interest. Of course, factors such as age, condition and even colour can affect how much interest these pieces gain with original Zenith pieces commanding a respectable price. A pair of rather novel versions such as these should prove to be a reasonable investment piece with their gorgeous looking fabric finish.
