Orange Knoll Original Vintage Harry Bertoia Black Diamond Lounge Chair
This is a very rare, early, fully original and iconic Harry Bertoia for Knoll orange vinyl covered black Diamond wire lounge chair; the perfect collectors piece! The iconic Diamond chair was available in either a fully upholstered, partially covered or ‘naked’ finish leaving just the wires of the chair exposed.
The first prototype of the Bertoia chair was displayed in 1952 and they were in production by the 1953. The wider version of this particular chair was introduced in the later 1950s. The Diamond Chair was part of a range of chairs Bertoia designed using the wire frame, sculpted finish, which was born from his strong interest in sculpting.
As an all original, vintage piece, it is not without its signs of age. The vinyl is mostly very good though it will benefit from a good clean as can be seen in the pictures. The wire has come through on some of the sides, which is also in the images; however, the seating and back rest area are still good. The frame is also similarly aged but strong; even retaining its original feet!
The original label on the underside indicates this is an early Knoll Bertoia Diamond Chair.
A rare example to find, the Bertoia Diamond Chair is steadily appreciating as the years pass as more people realise just how beautiful these chairs are. To find one with its original cover is hard, so this particular example should prove to be a great investment piece.
