Parchment Herman Miller Original Vintage Eames RAR Rocking Arm Chair
An original vintage parchment Eames arm shell chair on newer, used, walnut RAR base by Herman Miller is a great collector and statement piece. This earlier parchment shell has a desirable fading element on the back, consistent with its vintage quality, and will make an excellent statement piece at such an affordable price.
Herman Miller moved production of the Eames shells to its Venice factory, when they bought out Zenith Plastics to combine the financial and production means of creating the iconic shells. The factory soon became the Eames’s own work-shop, producing many various artistic pieces including the Powers of Ten film.
The shell is in near-excellent condition, for an early Herman Miller shell with no major marks or chips on the chair. The walnut RAR rocking base is also in fantastic quality and is stable and in good use- further pictures are available and recommended before purchase.
The later Cincinnati Milacron stamp on the underside of the shell indicates it was manufactured around 1965-1978.
Eames Shell Chairs vary from 1 to 5 stars for investment. The reasons depend on so many factors but mainly the condition, the rarity of the colour, the originality of the base, the age and of course the maker are those that determine. Parchment shells always retain a good base value and with this shell being an all original piece should be a good investment.
