Parchment Herman Miller Vintage Original Eames RAR Rocking Arm Chair
An original parchment Eames rocking arm shell chair on newer, used, RAR base from the Venice factory by Herman Miller is a great collector’s and statement piece. The shell is a little aged, but proudly displays the original label, which is quite rare these days, and is coupled with its used, newer, RAR base.
Herman Miller moved production of the Eames shells to its Venice factory, when they bought out Zenith Plastics to combine the financial and production means of creating the iconic shells. The factory soon became the Eames’s own work-shop, producing many various artistic pieces including the Powers of Ten film.
The shell does have a small chip in the front of the seat section. It has not impacted the usability of the shell but it is evident from the photographs. Otherwise the shell is in a good vintage condition. The base the shell is on is more similar to the picture of the RAR base included, but further pictures are available and recommended before purchase.
The red ‘Venice Label’ on the underside of the shell indicates it is a 3rd generation shell that was produced in California.
Eames Shell Chairs vary from 1 to 5 stars for investment. The reasons depend on so many factors but mainly the condition, the rarity of the colour, the originality of the base, the age and of course the maker are those that determine. Parchment shells always retain a good base value and with this shell being an all original piece should be a good investment.
